Buy a computer that is 200% faster then your current one.

Next there is nothing software wise that will make a system run 200% faster across the board. But there are some things that can be done to make parts of it faster.

First turn off all of the special effects that XP uses from the shading, to the scrolling, to the bubbled looks. Turn your recycle bin down to 1% or off. Keep your desktop as icon free as possible.

Next services. I'm guessing from your post you don't know a lot about XP or computers in general so I have a couple words of advice for you.

First don't go messing around with things you don't understand as the most likely result will be you back here asking why your computer is no longer working. Turning off various services can cause a speed increase on some machines. But in general most non-essential services aren't doing much anyway so on a normal machine under normal use getting rid of those service will not show a notable increase.

However if you want to try turning on and off services and hacking your registry file here are some essential links....

If you want to give Windows a boost, get a new hard disk and double your memory.
The new HDD will reduce the time the system waits for data to be read from disk, and the extra memory will allow windows to store more of itself in memory rather than page it from disk every time resources are required...
    That should do it ;);)

Basically you need to reduce the amount of programs that are loaded automatically when Windows XP starts up. This includes stuff like, Real Media Playcenter, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc.
