question about how microprocessors work

edited July 2004 in Hardware
Hi all I posted this question about how microprocessors work when I join this group but has not got response on this article I found.. still does not say how microprocessors work !! :loco:

Microprocessors control and process information, Information is encoded as electric charge representing numbers (0,1)...we know that it has millions of switches called transistors.

Also different combinations of binary numbers (0,1) represent numbers, letters and portions of sound and pictures we also know each of a computers thousands or millions of tiny electronic circuits operates much like an ordinary light switch. When circuit is off it corresponds to 0 when circuit is on it corresponds to 1..

Human brain work ?? Well that say you cut you self a small electric impulse travels to your brain and you brain response with feeling of pain you brain control you and your brain has thought, feeling and choices its is controlling center of the nervous system is the center of thought and emotions, and regulates bodily activities and is the consciousness of person. What consciousness it is above it being awake and aware of surroundings the state of being awake and aware of what is going on around you is what we call consciousness is mind its in your brain!!!

How does consciousness work well scientist do not yet know how it works..

Computer or more CPU are NOT consciousness or alive or have thought, feeling and choices or awake and aware of surroundings and only control and process information how does it know how ?? CPU or computer it dos not know how control and process information it needs software to tell it how but software is not hardware it can't do any think it only know how to do its like person that knows how drive car but no arms or legs but hardware is arms or legs but does not know what to do. So the CPU arms or legs that control and process information and the software tells it how do this.. All other components in computer are storage long or short storage and pathways..

Computer are nothing more than electronic device that accepts, processes, stores, and outputs data at high speeds according to programmed instructions. What is data its 0s and 1s if you cut open computer you will not see 0s and 1s moving but electrons but electrons are not enough to represent data so what do we do .. Well we made vacuum tubes in early computers vacuum tubes functioned as electronic switches when current flowed through it was on when current was not flowing it was off .The on and off work well to represent 0s and 1s the different combinations of binary numbers (0,1) represent numbers, letters and portions of sound and pictures. Essentially a computer is just a collection of on/off switches has example..

But imagine has example a large array of light bulbs say ten wows that each has 50 light bulbs in it. Each bulb is connect to a light switch if you turn on the right combination of switches you can put you name in lights. example think of computer has similar to that bank of lights, A computer can sense which light bulb are on and use that information to turn on other switches. If the patterns of on and off switches spell A1 the computer could be programmed to associate the A1 pattern with instruction from the software to turn on another group of switches to spell A2

The two pronged concept of on and off maps perfectly with the binary numbers system which only 0's and 1's to represent all numbers and by assigning alphanumeric characters to certain numbers they could manipulate text!!

The problem with those first computers however was that the intense heat generated by the hundreds of vacuum tubes .The transistors change the way computers could be built .A transistors is essentially a vacuum tubes built very small on microscopic scale..

So here some info on how microprocessors work..

Read up on "how transistors work", concentrating on what they call "FETs" (field effect transistors) Then, get to know the basics of "binary" language/system of counting. Put the two together and WHALA!! :)

What is FETs" (field effect transistors ?? And where can I get info this book or web site..

^ That's what I'm working on. I will be taking Electrical System I starting in the fall. I'm actually kind of excited about it. The little I learned about electrical systems in Physics II has really piqued my interest!

Well, let me start by saying there is ALOT more to understand here then I have time to explain. I can help with some of the concepts because I have a degree in Electronics Engineering I actually do understand all this mumbo jumbo, But you are going to have to "google" up some explainations on your own. ;)

A transistor is an electronic componant, that serves many different functions. In this case we will refer to them as little gateways; basicly with different inputs you get different outputs. If you apply a POS (+) voltage then you will get one result. If you apply a (NEG) - voltage then you will get a different result.

To understand a field effect transistor check this out Here.
there are MANY MANY other sites out there, as I said "google it".

Read up and then ask some more questions.

Hay all CPU has parts of electronic Gates is a circuit that makes
simple decisions you have NOT, OR,AND,XOR gates so on

You should look Boolean logic see these two links on how this
    works ,CPU will work ...

The article does not say how microprocessors work it some what
    cryptic I think??

    > that
    > > >it has millions of switches called transistors.

Ya they had vacuum tubes before

    > >

I thout pictures are pixal of dots not binary numbers

    electronic

    circuit

    > 1..

Yes I will also say vacuum tubes use this set up same with old puch
    cards

    > electric
    > > >impulse travels to your brain and you brain response with

Okay so whats the impulse in brain what does your brain do??

    >>you brain control you and your brain has thought, feeling and
    > > >choices

Ya and where does thought, feeling and choices come from

its is controlling center of the nervous system is the
    > > >center of thought and emotions, and regulates bodily activities
    > and
    > > >is the consciousness of person.

I will like my computer like C3PO and R2D2 in Star Wars

What consciousness it is above it

So what do scientist do hang around say to hard learn about how
consciousness work and ya cconsciousness could have 10000 of page how
    consciousness work

    > >
    > > >Computer or more CPU are NOT consciousness or alive or have
    > thought,
    > > >feeling and choices or awake and aware of surroundings and only
    > > >control and process information

it can only control and process information in data

how does it know how ?? CPU or computer it dos not know how control
    and process information it
    > > >needs software to tell it how

Thats why computer programmers so liked

    >>but software is not hardware it can't
    > > >do any think it only know how to do its like person that knows
    how

    > does

    > > >process information and the software tells it how do this..

Yep with out software CPU is no good !! Like man has tools but does
not know how to make home..

    All
    > > >other components in computer are storage long or short storage
    and
    > > >pathways..
    > >
    > > >Computer are nothing more than electronic device that accepts,

Computer can solve problems like in WWW II to map bombs and bullets
I do not know how it works may be member can reply to this ...

What is data its 0s and 1s if you cut
    > open
    > > >computer you will not see 0s and 1s moving but electrons but
    > > >electrons are not enough to represent data so what do we do ..

What electrons is negatively charged particle of matter and orbits
the nucleus of an atom and What is electricity? Energy associated
with electrons that have moved from one place to another.

DoOd, SLOOOOW DOWN! Ask specific questions.

The site I sent you to is but one of MANY! You will NOT be able to understand this in a couple of minutes and with two articles. It takes many YEARS to understand all this.

How in depth are you looking to go? Research hexadecimal, digital logic, digial componants, binary, basic AC/DC and semiconductor theory,ETC... and you might begin to get it in depth. :loco:

basicly what do you REALLY want to know?

And yes software tell the CPU what do with the data ....
