Target picks sides.

In June, Blockbuster Video announced its decision to support only Blu-ray in the war with its rival format HD DVD. Yesterday, big-box chain Target made a similar announcement. At least through the holiday season, they will carry Blu-ray products exclusively.

As with Blockbuster no information was released as to what kind of deal may have been made with Sony, the developer of Blu-ray technology.

Sitting in the opposite camp with the HD-DVD developer, Toshiba, are Microsoft and Warner Bros. So far, no retailers have announced plans to carry exclusively HD-DVD products.

The question is: Will this kind of deal have much effect on the outcome of the battle between the formats?

Looks to me like someone was just speading a little horse dung and FUD about Target selling only BD players.

Of the 2 - which one is superior; from a technological point of view?

    Betamax... that's the sad part...

If I had to pick I would choose blu-ray even though it's Sony's. It has the higher capacity and is support by more manufactures (which can easily change). But for the most part they are pretty damn similar. There are many websites that compare the 2 technologies side by side.

I prefer just making a HTPC and hooking it up to a HD display. Then you dont really have to worry about which format wins.
