With a population of over 200,000 players, the economy of EVE Online is starting to suffer from rumors of inflation. As player mine raw resources, craft items, and a sell them in markets, 'real-world' sociological forces start to act on the economy of the game.

To help manage this issue, the game developers have hired an economist, Eyjolfur Gudmundsson.

Gudmundsson himself explains it best, "the consumers behave in a more natural way because they are competing against each other on multiple levels, not only on a tactical level in combat but for logistics and resources. That builds consumer behavior and patterns that you see in the real world,"

Being a past EVE player, all I can say is.. HAH HAH! If you play you really can see that the game world is really complex, for anyone who thinks WoW is complex, thing 100x more for EVE. It's a great game but becuase of the internal conflicts between various factions of actual players like BOB and... I can't remember who else it's just insane to keep track of it all.
