I thought getting some decent software would solve the issue but nope...

I just copied a CD and burned it to a CDR...So that worked...

But thats all I can get to work...I can get nothing else to work...Nothing...

I have like 20 RW's sitting here in a pile that it gets to various points and errors out on and now i put the DVDR that came w/ the stupid drive in and nothing happens...i cant get it to even recognize that!...HELP!!!!!!!!

Where do i begin!

    PLEXTOR DVDR/RW (PX-712SA)

I'm assuming that this is the drive you are talking about. The firmware maybe borked or the whole drive maybe borked. You can try to update the firmware from here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1826
Please read through their FAQ and check the forums there for any problems that might be related to you.

A couple of things to consider...

Is the drive running in DMA mode within windows?
Have you attempted to lower the writing speed on the burner when doing RWs?
    Have you tried different media?
