edited November 2003 in Folding@Home
I keep getting this error! I have tried EVERYTHING, deleting the core, deleting the program, use the beta, use 3.24, use advmethods, forceasm, ect. Here what I get everytime it runs:

that could take some more digging ...first of all are you positive there is no process already running in task manager?

Um, I think you have a corrupt client or core. I hate to say this, but it could also be a RAM issue as these WUs can be large in size. I would try uninstalling Folding@Home, then redownloading and reinstalling it. IF you still have problems, check the RAM and HD in your computer, please, and make sure HD is not full even if it should not be(I have a few friends that keep forgetting to empty the recycle bin, mine now does that itself every 2-3 days Norton SystemWorks thingy in my case).

If still no go after reinstalling Folding after redownloading it, then you need a couple of tools (software kind, free kind). What HD do you have, and can you burn CDs??? I would say the Memtest86 ISO is the best RAM tester, no need to be in Windows for that and it is faster and you get areas that the Windows system areas would otherwsie take up tested. What is best for HD usually can run from a floppy, so who made your HD and how old is it or what model number is it??? A LOT of Folding problems like this can be related back to one or MORE of three needs that must be met, especially with Foldiing-- first, data integrity during download must be excellent, second no corruption of Data in RAM due to bad RAM, third is that I\O from HD storage works right and that HD media is not faulty or cable to HD is not faulty or WRONG CABLE. Possible fourth, given that lots of folks here OC, your ratios for timing need to be tight and not loosey-goosey. Folding needs data "right now" when it needs it while it is decompressing, and if the RAM or HD cannot keep up with the CPU you will get decompression issues-- BIG TIME. Essentially, as a relative to a ZIP archive is how WUs arrive-- they have to be expanded into available RAM and sometimes Windows has to swap things to make that work if RAM is tight or faulty. When you quit folding before rebooting, folding happily zips up its work as a progress file and then takes off from where it left off when you bring the machine back to life-- so please quit folding before rebooting, also, or you might get a nice situation where the client is happily redoing one WU from start for a LONG time, restarting the WU with every reboot.

John.(I know I'm the II, but 2X of John is not needed, sorry if anyone saw that)

Uh, no, it was saying it gave up after trying to decompress a WU umpteen times. It also downloaded that many times trying to get a new WU. Problem right now is not the WU, problem is the program or the core. What client version are you running??? It likes the core, but looks like the client could not decompress OR the core is corrupt and cannot decompress.

So, either you got umpteen bad copies of WU, or the Core or Client are corrupt. Suggestion, let us know exactly what is in the box as far as hardware, and virus scan the puppy and do what else I said above, OK??? This is not just normal program issues AFAIK.

    John.

I would just uninstall it and delete the whole folder...download the console version and start from scratch ...once you get that running ok if you really need the graphic just install over it ...IMHO

I'd just uninstall it and download a new installation.
I had to do that with one that got hung up.

I also had one that got "deleted" (lost a 60 pointer) and it still shows as a queued WU in EM.

I went back to my normal setting and after F@H finish the wu it started doing the same thing! This problem is not going away, i going to underclock my computer again to get a wu and start folding again but i also going to try to figure this out because i don't want to do that everytime i finish my wu.
