Premature trigger. Deleting the thread would cause more trouble than doing this kind of explaining.

Are you trying to say that F.E.A.R. is not the video game equivalent of a startle flick?

I believe you over indulged that analogy, Dead Space primarily uses that ploy so I believe it is viable in that situation. The physic hallucinations and scenes are rather jumpy but it is partly to show the fragmentation of "adult" Alma's mind. The startle is not used across all elements in FEAR and used in conjecture with other elements, normally visual with minor sound elements. I am playing through one of the FEAR expansions right now and do not find myself horrible startled but merely slightly scared in some areas trying to expect things and am startled when something unanticipated occurs.

All of this aside I think we should sit down while I play some FEAR and discuss it further with the source material present at EXPO. I didn't buy FEAR3 already so we could no view and discuss that sequel.

Sure. I'd like that if we find time. I have to admit my impression of the entire franchise is based upon the first five minutes of the demo of the first game. I couldn't play any further because being startled gives me an instant migrain. I've been assuming the entire series is akin to that five minutes.

Penny-Arcade well illustrated the issue with DSIII co-op, as their craft demands they do:
