Please help w/HJT log again! Can't stop pop-ups, running slow

Here is my HJT log. I got the bestfriends.scr virus about 3 months ago, but I thought I got it fixed through following people's instructions on this site. It may be back, or it may have just not gotten totally fixed. My computer constantly has pop-ups and is running extremely slow. I have already done adaware and spybot. Any help will be appreciated greatly!

Thanks!
~Cathy

    Hi ukcat1383

I have a different approach for you b4 you try it again with hijackthis.

go to start run msconfig [disable all startups] follow the prompt

download the following programms and do update their definition files first before you scan.

This is just to clean your system afterwards you can deside if you keep them or not.

run first http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp full scan plz remove files if found

    Second [ http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/1/5/815d2d60-49b5-44dc-ae35-fca2f2c6f0cc/MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe ] run fullscan

Alternative full scan for a double check with Webroot Spy Sweeper 3.5 update definition files first b4 u scan

    u should update ur xp to SP2 [ http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en ] approx 272Mb install

    After setup enable Automatic updates.

if all done incl ur scans, updates, go to msconfig [enable all startups]
    reboot.

If Ms antispy warns you that unknown object are trying to add themself just block.

If the problem still persists plz post.

    ty.

Ok, you look to be on your way with a clean PC.

Just a few bugs starting up on your system.

Here is what I need you to do.

First Grab a copy of Ad-Aware (link is in my signature). Go ahead and install it on your computer. It is a utility similar to the MS one but works a little different. Once you installed Ad-Aware on your PC I need you go update the program so it will detect all the latest threats. If you need help doing that just click the 'How To's' link in my sig.

When the util has been updated I will need you to boot into safe mode. To do this simply reboot your computer and as it starts up tap the 'F8' key. If you get the windows screen you were too slow. More detailed procedure can also be found through the 'How To' link.

Once you are in safe mode I need you to open up your copy of HiJackThis. Now select and remove the following entries:

    R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missingO2 - BHO: (no name) - {0765B4BB-7653-59FC-28D0-2787EBF3E8C9} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gbxfv.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} -
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XyuIYv.exe] C:\windows\system32\XyuIYv.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows FormatAd] C:\Program Files\Windows FormatAd\WinForm.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [43DP4#F4Q23S6Z] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Lck7.exe

After you have deleted these entries you can close HiJackThis.

Lastly open up the copy of Ad-Aware you previously installed. Run a FULL system scan. This should pick up any of the bugs left on your system from the other scans.

Now just reboot, and _hopefully_ you should be malware free!
If you have any troubles just ask or if you still have issues just post another log.

    Good Luck :D

OK, I got ad-aware, and followed exactly what you said to do, reboot in safe mode, run adaware, delete HJT entries listed above. Here is my new HJT log. I had another question - about Service Pack 2 - should I install this update or not? I had my computer cleaned off last summer and updated from ME to XP, and everything was wiped totally off and virus free, etc. The person who did this for me said that I didn't need to install SP2. Is this the case? I don't know enough about it. Can you please advise, as well as what else do I need to do with this HJT log? What about preventative stuff for the future so I don't have to go thru this all the time?

    Thanks!

Your system looks to be clean now.

Are you still having any popups or hijacks?

We don't recommend going to SP2 until the system is _completely_ clean. But yes, eventually we do recommend loading SP2, it fixes server bugs/exploits and increases the security of your machine.

Just let me know if you machine is ok or of you are still experiencing any problems.

    Thanks
