How much time do you need before the patch one way or the other?

In other words, when do we need to have our votes in by?

    Thanks,

    -Digi

The poll expires on October 30. I implement what is decided when the server is patched (takes < 10 minutes once it becomes available).

I voted for flatten/nuke, provided we can get our hands on the save file for single-player (I know it's already been noted that we can).

No way in hell I'm re-starting all the work I did on my Big House model on my own.

Servernuke is in the lead. I wonder if we're going to lose people...

I really think there's going to be some unhappy people with a full nuke.

Why is a second server not an option? Do we think it will split the community that much?

It absolutely would split everybody up.

If we make the current server available for single-player, I honestly don't see the difference between choices 2 and 3.

It still may split everyone up. If you are not in favor of what the majority rules, then we may still lose people.

It is a game after all, it means different things to different people, but I really hope everyone gives it a shot no matter the outcome. If you hate it, we may all hate it.

I just started a SP for myself, your priorities are a lot different, I urge everyone to play SP.

If you care about your personal projects more than the intended multiplayer survival aspect then you are essentially playing this as a single player game and the current game data will be available for you to have that.

I say reset the servers every time there is a patch so we can experience it as it is intended to be.

We should keep a log/data file of every server prior to patch reset for people who want to be nostalgic and play with their past structures.

Playing SP really does change your priorities. I hope the creepers are more numerous and dangerous. It's really more fun when you have to rebuild and there is a danger you won't get done in time.

Not to be slammin' on Piggy but are we counting votes of people who don't play? Magic is right though and there will be people who don't like what we do no matter what we choose. I would just point out that most of us have only been playing for a little over a week and look at how much we made in that time. If we nuke the whole thing it's not going to be a huge setback provided you don't make anything gigantic between now and when that happens. It's a tough choice and people are going to be mad but if the current vote wins I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone works together to survive with limited supplies and more danger.

Why would we count votes from people who have nothing invested in the server? :)

Though I respect everyone's opinion but if we just nuke the server every freaken time a update gets released then what is the incentive to play? There needs to be a line drawn. So we nuke the server this time and once again we work hard to make another community but then another update comes out then are we just going to nuke it again? To me there is starting to be too much politics going on and I am afraid its going to ruin the game. Sorry this seems edgy and I don't mean any disrespect just having a bad day and I will just hate to see all the hard work we have all put into this game get destroyed just to give some folks a "challenge". I rest my case now.

The server will not be nuked every time there is an update. I'm just going to go out and say that this is the only time the server will ever be nuked. Period.

The reason nuking is an option for people on this patch is because the game is fundamentally changing. The likelihood of such significant changes to the gameplay in future patches is much less.

Agreed, this is essentially moving the game from beta into production, etc. Or alpha into beta, quite possibly.

Due to internet problems last night I played single player and the game play is completely different when you have to keep health and monsters in mind. Fall damage is real, drowning is real. I am now all in favor of nuking and starting fresh. Can we start a thread to plan our new world? How are we going to decide who gets what land? Are we going to start by building an Icrontic safe haven and then branch out from there?

(Also holy crap I was up til 5 in the morning. Why does this game do that?)

With the speed you can build things in this game, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone will be ready for a new challenge 3 weeks from now.

Not that I'm a minecraft player, but generally this is the kind of stuff you risk when you play an alpha, or beta. It's not meant to be a long-term thing.

IMO, the best part about being a kid was cutting a path to a clearing, carrying stuff out there and building a fort. Not sitting in the fort when it was built or admiring it. I'd probably like minecraft even if it were nuked on a regular basis, the fun part is figuring out what to do and how to do it.

There's a sense of pride about the accomplishment, but take videos / screenshots for the memories and it's all good?

I feel I should mention that a good portion of the MC community will be either finishing up at ICOK when this goes live or commuting home. IMO we should start up the new map Monday around 8pm EST to allow everyone interested to attend the opening.

I don't believe the intent was to do this on the 31st since it is the 31st and there is lulz to be had as Nova Schin paints the sun.

Yeah, what's the deal TT? We're gonna need a Nova Schin fix soon!

I agree with Spencer, I think we should wait until Monday evening to launch that server. I want to be a part of that.
