Last week, research firm [b]Gartner[/b] issued a note that has raised serious questions about [b]Microsoft[/b]'s internal commitment to rid its operating systems of security holes.
[blockquote]The report from Gartner was spurred by the Abstract Syntax Notation vulnerability which Microsoft made public and issued a corrective patch for earlier this week. The vulnerability affects most every modern version of the Windows operating system and most security experts agree systems that aren't quickly patched are at high risk of hacker attacks or a quick-spreading Internet worm.

[b]Lexmark Europe[/b] last week unveiled several new printers and All-In-One products at its annual conference in Lisbon. Some of the new printers will also introduce new ink technology that combines for the first time dye-based and pigmented inks.
[blockquote]Lexmark claims that, when used on its own photo paper, the new ink resists fading from light, enabling consumers and professionals to better- preserve treasured photographs and keepsakes.
The ink technology is available in the new X5250 printer, which boasts photo capabilities with six-colour and borderless printing. The X5250 can print up to 14 pages per minute (ppm) in colour and can generate up to 20 ppm in black.

The number of website hostnames running [b]Microsoft[/b]'s newest operating system, [i]Windows Server 2003[/i], overtook those running on [i]Windows NT4[/i] earlier this month. 1.25 million hostnames are now running [b]Microsoft[/b]'s newest OS.

After previously reporting the release of the first ever service pack for [b]Microsoft[/b]'s [i]Windows 98 SE[/i] operating system, we now bring you news that a new version of the (essential) hot fix roll up, is now available for download. Please note, this service pack is not created or supported by [b]Microsoft[/b].
[blockquote]Microsoft has never released a service pack for Windows98 SE. But I made a Service Pack for Windows98 SE users. It contains all Windows98 SE updates from WindowsUpdate site and more.
-52 hot fixes. (All of them are from Microsoft's WindowsUpdate.)
-256-color tray. (Some icons on the tray like WinAMP's icon will be shown better.)
-Better Defrag. (Faster. It is from Windows ME. However, It works properly on the Windows98 SE.)
-Better Notepad. (Same Notepad with more key bindings.)
-Optimized swap file usage. (Windows will not to use the swap file at all until all of the RAM is used.)

The [b]DVD Copy Control Association[/b], a Hollywood backed technology group, filed a suit against software company [b]321 Studios[/b] Friday, for allegedly infringing patent rights on its DVD copy protection.
[blockquote]"In taking this legal action, DVD CCA is turning its focus toward those who produce and broadly distribute products in the marketplace that facilitate the widespread infringement of the copyrights on motion pictures that CSS was designed to protect," said Steven Reiss, an attorney for the trade organization, in a statement. "DVD CCA believes that halting the mass marketing of these illegal products is the most important and effective step toward protecting its property from theft and misuse in a changing marketplace."

It has been reported that last weeks leak of the [i]Windows 2000[/i] source code, did in fact originate from [b]Mainsoft[/b], not [b]Microsoft[/b]. [b]Mainsoft[/b] was one of only two partners with access to the [i]Windows[/i] source code under [b]Microsoft[/b]'s [i]Windows Interface Source Environment (WISE)[/i] program.
[blockquote]Clues to the source code's origin lie in a "core dump" file, which is left by the Linux operating system to record the memory a program is using when it crashes. Further investigation by BetaNews revealed the machine was likely used by Mainsoft's Director of Technology, Eyal Alaluf.

Now there is no wait when you apply changes to the Direct3D settings which is certainly more welcomed.
