It has been reported that recent [b]ATI[/b] roadmaps indicate that the company's upcoming [i]R420[/i] chip may be twice as fast as their [i]Radeon Pro 9800[/i] card.
[blockquote]The R420 should have approximately a 500MHz GPU, 1 GHz memory, 8 pixel pipelines, and 6 vertex shaders. It may have 160 million transistors, which should place it in the same league as nVidia's NV40. In the fall ATI will refresh its GPU line with the R480, which will probably be a higher-clocked 420. The R480 may be a .11 micron part, but neither ATI nor nVidia will release 90 nanometer parts until 2005. [/blockquote]

It has been reported that the source code of [i]Windows NT[/i] and [i]Windows 2000[/i] has leaked onto the web.
[blockquote]It would appear that two packages are circulating on the internet, one being the source code to Windows 2000, and the other being the source code to Windows NT. At this time, it is hard to establish whether or not full code has leaked, and this will undoubtedly remain the situation until an attempt is made to compile them. Microsoft are currently unavailable for comment surrounding this leak. And this leak could be a very big problem around the world.

It has come to light (if you pardon the pun), that a previously unknown software flaw in a widely-deployed General Electric energy management system, contributed to the devastating scope of the August 14th North Eastern U.S. blackout.
[blockquote]The bug in GE Energy's XA/21 system was discovered in an intensive code audit conducted by GE and a contractor in the weeks following the blackout, according to FirstEnergy Corp., the Ohio utility where investigators say the blackout began. "It had never evidenced itself until that day," said spokesman Ralph DiNicola. "This fault was so deeply embedded, it took them weeks of poring through millions of lines of code and data to find it."

[b]Patriot Scientific[/b] has announced it is suing [b]Intel[/b] in response to a recently filed suit against them by the chip maker.

A California appeals court has ruled that [b]eBay[/b] cannot be forced into removing false information posted by its users.

A judge has thrown out [b]Microsoft[/b]'s law suit against [i]Lindows[/i]. The suit challanged the use of too similar a name to [i]Windows[/i].

Some [b]AOL[/b] [i]Instant Messenger[/i] users Wednesday were bombarded with messages prompting them to download a seemingly innocent game. Upon install however a piggyback program is also initiated, broadcasting the advertisement from the infected computer to all correspondents on its [i]AIM[/i] buddy lists.
[blockquote]The software, called Buddylinks, is not technically a virus because users must accept its terms of service before it's installed. The small-print legal disclaimer states what's being installed, though users tend to click through such legalese without reading it.

Sun Microsystems has [link=http://www.sun.com/smi/Press/sunflash/2004-02/sunflash.20040210.2.html]announced[/link] their new SunFire V20z server, which features the AMD Opteron 64-bit processor. The server will be available in single and dual processor configurations, with up to 16gb of RAM available. They will be available with 64-bit linux, 32-bit linux, or 64-bit Solaris for x86.

[blockquote]We've received information about future enhancements for Office 2003. Office 2003 SP1 which is currently planned for release in late May will include fixes/improvements for all applications in the Office 2003 suite with some big enhancements for InfoPath 2003.
Microsoft are adding the ability for custom controls, active x controls that can be made available in InfoPath's control tasks pane as well as other improvements throughout InfoPath. Details are unclear on what enhancements will be made in other applications like Word and Outlook at the moment. See below for the InfoPath improvements.
