[b]Microsoft[/b] said it will unveil the hardware requirements needed to run [i]Longhorn[/i], the next version of Windows, at a May developer conference.
[blockquote]In a promotional e-mail for the conference, Microsoft said hardware and driver developers could "get the first close look" at Longhorn. In addition to the system requirements, the Redmond, Wash., company said it will detail how to write the drivers needed to connect hardware in Longhorn, along with "future directions for mobile computing and Tablet PCs, Media Center Edition, 64-bit Windows" and embedded versions of Windows.

PC maker [b]Dell[/b] said Wednesday it had no plans to use [b]AMD[/b] chips in its products as corporate customers are not asking for them.

Alviso features Intel's High Definition Audio sub-system, formerly known as 'Azalia', which is built into the ICH6-M South Bridge. It has been reported that the [b]European Commission[/b]'s antitrust investigators have not been impressed by [b]Microsoft[/b]'s suggestion of distributing rivals' software. The [b]EC[/b] has rejected the software giants offer to settle its antitrust case by putting competitors' software on CD-ROMs sold with computers.
[blockquote]According to a draft decision, the European Commission has decided that Microsoft abused its dominant position, and curbed competition by tying its Media Player program -- used for playing music and videos -- to its Windows operating system. The commission has been considering an order that would tell Microsoft to unbundle Media Player from Windows, which the company insists would wreck the system. Alternatively, it has considered an order which would require Microsoft to bundle in the audio-visual software of rivals, but as a part of the software package on the computer rather than on a separate CD-ROM.

The new worm [i]Bagle-B[/i], the second follow up to the illustrious [i]Bagle[/i] virus, is hitting the west hard as it spreads via email. [i]Tanx-A[/i], as it is also known, arrives with the subject line 'ID' followed by various random characters and the message text, 'Yours ID'. We can thank the good virus writers of Poland for this one.

[b]AOL[/b] said Wednesday that is has filed civil suits against four individuals based in the U.S state of Florida who are suspected of sending considerable amounts of spam e-mail to its customers.
[blockquote]According to Dulles, Va.-based AOL, the Florida defendants teamed up with parties in Thailand to barrage AOL members with more than 35 million spam messages over the course of several years. The company said it first became aware of the group in January 2003 via a wave of 1.5 million user complaints and immediately launched an investigation into the spammer's operations. The scheme reportedly involved an onslaught of e-mail messages loaded with hypertext links advertising low-mortgage rate offers for AOL members.

A U.S. judge has dismissed a complaint brought against Rambus by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission that the company tried to unfairly monopolize the memory-chip market.

Top memory analyst Nam Hyung Kim said in a weekly report that in his view it’s unlikely [b]Intel[/b] will succeed in shifting the market to DDR-2 during 2004.

[b]Cingular Wireless[/b] has agreed to buy [b]AT&T Wireless[/b] for more than $40 billion. The deal could result in the creation of the largest cellular subscription base.
[blockquote]The deal, confirmed after the British company Vodafone Group PLC said it had withdrawn from the two-way bidding war, creates a combined company with a potential 46 million subscribers, Cingular said Tuesday in announcing the agreement.
The current market leader, Verizon Wireless, reported 37.5 million subscribers in its quarterly earnings report last month.
"This is great news for America's wireless users," said Stan Sigman, president and CEO of Atlanta-based Cingular in confirming his company's winning bid, which is subject to the approval of AT&T Wireless shareholders and federal regulatory authorities.

[b]Intel[/b] will give a glimpse of what the insides of computers might look like in a few years when it presents research results at a conference this week.
[blockquote]Researchers from the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker will present papers at the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco that will describe, among other projects, a low-power, high-speed arithmetic logic unit (ALU) that can run both 32-bit and 64-bit code. This, in turn, could allow the company to make Pentium-class chips that could run both types of software. The ALU churns calculations with whole numbers instead of decimals.
