It has been reported that [b]Sun Microsystems[/b] will discuss a future high-end processor Wednesday, a chip code-named 'Rock' that will combine features of own designs with technology it acquired from [b]Afara Websystems[/b].

The standard desktop PC of 2007 will have a hard drive with a capacity between 500GB and 600GB, according to Mark Geenen, managing director of research company [b]TrendFocus[/b].

Sales of Wi-Fi networking gear was up significantly in 2003, driven mostly by consumer demand.
[blockquote]The Wi-Fi gear market continued its rapid growth in 2003, led mostly by consumer holiday sales, but companies saw a slight shuffle in their market share rankings.
The overall revenue for Wi-Fi wireless networking gear was up more than 55 percent in the fourth quarter to $751.9m (£403.29m), Synergy Research Group said in a report on Tuesday. Revenue was up about 40 percent, to $2.5bn, for the year.
The consumer sector drove the overall market, increasing about 74 percent in the fourth quarter to $517.6m and up 66 percent to $1.6bn for the year. The enterprise, or large-business, segment also was up significantly -- about 26 percent to $234.3m for the quarter and about 9 percent to $869.7m for the year.

During normal operations, the rovers communicate directly with Earth when receiving instructions or sending back diagnostic information. They send back the bulk of their scientific data and photographs by using NASA's Mars Odyssey and Mars Global Surveyor probes as relay stations. These unmanned craft orbit the red planet carrying cameras, high-gain and ultra-high-frequency (UHF) antennae along with other scientific instruments.
The omnidirectional mast antenna sticking up from each rover's top like a dorsal fin knows when to transmit by listening for a signal that one of the orbiters is passing overhead. The orbiter then uses its more-powerful antenna to send as many as one million bits of data per second back to Earth. While fairly fast for an attenuated radio connection, that's only about a tenth of the speed of a cable-modem connection for the average home-computer user.

This also made the BBC news headlines over here in the UK today. [b]Microsoft[/b] in warning customers that a serious security flaw in its [i]Windows[/i] software needs to be patched immediately.

[b]Microsoft[/b] has provided a modified version of [i]Windows XP[/i] with reduced features for use in the Thai government's low-cost PC program, and may make this software available to other governments, the company said.
