Re: Pokemon GO
From what I have gathered, past Pokemon games that included at least Gen 2 Pokemon based some evolution off of "Friendliness" level. There is nothing known to that extent in Go currently. There is however an easter egg with Pikachu as your Buddy in that he will sit next to you until you walk for 10Km with him. At that point he will sit on your shoulder. This is based off the TV show story line in which Pikachu did not trust ash at first. Some sort of selfless act was done my Ash that then caused Pikachu to start warming up to him.
I could see them using the total distance you have walked with a Pokemon to determine their "Friendliness".

Re: Pokemon GO
I started playing yesterday... Last night my daughter and son started... 15 minutes later we went on our SECOND family bike ride of the year to go find Pokestops and Pokemons.
On that 1 hr bike ride, we went to two parks and passed 15 - 20 people. 12 of which we playing Pokemon Go. This is officially a HUGE thing. Biggest "thing" that I have witnessed.

Re: Budget home build
For $350 you can go with a 525 GB SSD. I put one together on microcenter with an AsRock board that has HDMI, VGA, and DVI out on the board. 8 GB of DDR 3 in dual channel, most expensive part is the SSD.
You could build around a SkyLake / Kabby Lake i3 on a budget. That is your only other decent option without spending for a graphics card and adding a little complexity to the build. I'd just get an A10, it's cheap and good like most of Icrontic. Kids will even be able to play some video games on it.

Pair that with a little FM2+ board and you will be good to go.

Re: THE (final) SHORT-MEDIA LAN #1 THREAD
I thought some of these were lost forever. Yesterday, my parents dropped off a bin in my garage and inside I found my missing 2004-2007 LAN badges. I had to share my joy:
