If you can get to recovery mode, you may be able to get to target disk mode too (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Disk_Mode) - in which case you can plug it into another machine and it should show up as an external drive.
As it says in the article, you may have issues reading the Mac file system (probably HFS if it's an older machine) but there are workarounds, both commercial and free.

We are showing up in town on the 29th and leaving the 2nd. Gonna be driving and staying down the road a bit at a hotel.

In for 12/31 - 1/2 x 2 humans and 1-2 dogs, if the dogs are still ok w you @Linc . Would like to stay @ the house. All humans boostered, all dogs properly vaxxed as well.
