Re: Wonder Woman
Saw Wonder Woman and Alien Covenant back to back the opening weekend. I really enjoyed both films and liked Wonder Woman a bit more. Really enjoyed the development of the characters. Hopefully the follow ups live up to the opener.

Magic: The Gathering news - June 2017 announcement week
Anyone else enjoy following the evolution of Magic? Frankly, as a product lead myself, I find reading the lead designer's Tumblr and reading articles about the meta decisions around the game as much fun as playing the game. Mark Rosewater is a saint and a sage in my book.
Highlight reel from what's been announced this week:
- After 4 years of hiatus, the core set returns next summer with some changes.
- They're getting rid of the "block" format that's been a staple of Magic since '96.
- Instead, each new set will be free to roam to new locales or stay as appropriate.
- "Unstable" is set for Dec release, the first silver-border satire set since 2007's Unhinged.
- The first set of 2018 will return to Magic's original setting, Dominaria, for the first time in 11 years.
- Richard Garfield returned (first time in... 20 years?) to help design that set, which is named "Dominaria".
- They're doing a "Masters 25" set to commemorate the game's 25th anniversary next year.
- They're laying off the "Masterpiece" series (super rare, super nice foil reprints sprinkled in booster packs) and doing it intermittently instead of every set.
These are all pretty great from my perspective. They're making considered, data-driven changes to the game's rhythm and doing a lot of great fan service. Their rationale for all of these changes and announcements rang true to me as a long-time off-and-on player whose interest in the game has waxed and waned with how compelling (or overwhelming) it was. Stuff like having a Masterpiece series for every set kinda made me throw up my hands because as a collector that's basically an impossibly high (expensive) bar to cross. And while I really liked the 2-set cycles (recently down from 3-set cycles) I agree there's actually no great benefit to being locked to that format whatsoever. And having a set finally named "Dominaria" just makes my nerd heart happy.

Ariving Tuesday some time with pupper after a quick jaunt around Lake Superior.
Wonder Woman
Finally got to see this tonight. What a fantastic movie. I LOVED it. The only sad part is that it took this long for little girls to have a superhero movie to grow up with.
I'm like... really, really ambivalent about the DC universe. I loved the Dark Knight trilogy but that's it. The other movies are completely uninteresting and I don't care one whit about Justice League.
However, one thing is certain: DC is pretty serious about Wonder Woman. Diana is a goddess and we don't deserve her; this movie drives that point home loud and clear.
Re: Wonder Woman
Saw it tonight. Movie was dope. I was particularly impressed with the fight choreography, it was really clean and spectacular looking. I could have used much less slow-mo in the fight scenes, but that's DC's/Zack Snyder's influence for ya.
Characters were well written and genuinely like able. Story progressed at a nice pace and I'm glad that Wonder Woman felt like a legit goddess the entire time.
It actually frustrates me how good that film is, because it offers a glimpse into the awesome world of DC comic book films that we could have. It's not fair that DC is so bad at films, because there are so many great characters that deserve awesome movies.

Recycled Comics by CB - now in paperback!
I've been doing this project, supported by my awesome Patreon Patrons, called Recycled Comics. You may have seen me mention it. What I'm doing is taking old comic books, ones for which the copyrights have been lost or abandoned, and removing all the text, so that I can write new text for them. I've taken previously disconnected stories, and reworked them to function in a shared sci-fi universe, the same story universe that most of my sci-fi stories take place in. The third issue is wrapping up now, and you can read all of it over at the Recycled Comics site.
BUT the exciting thing I want to share today is that the first print volume is out today! It's a full-color, high-quality paperback containing the first three issues, and all the one-pagers that came in between. You can pick it up here, or on your country's Amazon site.
I will also have copies of the book (along with my other new book, Peacemaker) at EPIC next week if you are going to be there, and want to take a look! I'll be giving a reading from Peacemaker, and selling and signing books afterward as usual.
