I am going to be laughing about this for weeks. Nine years. Meathook. Unbelievable.

What a bizarre, strange night.

Things began innocently enough. Late start as we waited for the server to update. Then, slowly but surely, Icrontic began to fill the ranks.

@Linc cracked a bottle of sake. Like ya do. It's Tuesday.

After about 30 or so minutes, the entire server lagged out and everyone froze. We sat motionless for around 30 seconds to a minute, unsure if the server was going to recover or not. Of course, the game timer continued to count down, taunting us as we were rallying for a final push to win.

Suddenly, the server snapped back, and we all asked via voice if we all experienced that. The timer didn't recover, naturally, and weird things began to happen.

Players were invisible. Some player models were stuck in a run cycle at odd points in the map. Some players were nothing but floating hats with weapons. The server was all over the place. @Linc drank half the bottle.

Suddenly, as if sent to us from the Heavens above, an innocent sounding name joined the server and began playing with us.

meathook.

I wouldn't have believed it if you told me. I witnessed it in person and I can hardly believe it. Like Icrontic lore coming to life, 9 years later, the return of the prodigal son. @primesuspect and @Linc were in stitches. They could hardly breathe. Slowly, we put together the pieces. His account had only ever been called meathook. He joined steam in 2008. He was still earning achievements as if he hadn't played at all for the last 9 years. He was.... mediocre at best. Heck, even that profile image of the skull struck the bells of nostalgia. It was THE meathook.

We begged and begged for him to talk to us. Just speak words. We had to hear from the prophet. Nay, he denied us for well over an hour of gameplay while we were all beside ourselves, astonished at the whole thing.

Finally, he spoke:

And that was the end of it. He never spoke again. Shortly after, we experienced another server hiccup, and we never recovered. meathook was gone, likely to never be seen again. I'm honored and privileged to have experienced it tonight.

No joke, I woke up this morning and the very first thing I thought about was meathook showing up on the server. I took a moment to figure out if I had dreamed it or not. Still doesn't feel real.

I guess I should stop going fishing on Tuesdays, but at least this time we loaded the cooler (literally, LOADED, no room for ice) with Redfish (Red Drum) and Black Drum.

Will hopefully be back in action next week...unless I go fishing again :-p
