R420 may be twice as fast as the 9800
It has been reported that recent ATI roadmaps indicate that the company's upcoming R420 chip may be twice as fast as their Radeon Pro 9800 card.
[blockquote]The R420 should have approximately a 500MHz GPU, 1 GHz memory, 8 pixel pipelines, and 6 vertex shaders. It may have 160 million transistors, which should place it in the same league as nVidia's NV40. In the fall ATI will refresh its GPU line with the R480, which will probably be a higher-clocked 420. The R480 may be a .11 micron part, but neither ATI nor nVidia will release 90 nanometer parts until 2005. [/blockquote]
