I have trouble making any sense out of what the "new" pricing means. It says in teh chart that it's based on customers buying 1000 at a time direct from AMD without a middleman to mark it up and yet.... newegg sells me the same cpu's for less money for the last 90 days then AMD's "new" lower prices for big customers who want thousands of them at a time? And they throw in free shipping for me usually also?
like I said... newegg has been selling them retail for less then the "new" "lowered" prices in lots of 1000. So its hard to make sense out of what it means.

newegg is just that cool, I guess. Seriously though, Tex, I had the same exact thought as you when I saw that pricing list. Newegg and others must get some kind of even-lower-prices deal from AMD or something.

It was supposed to be the purchase price IN LOTS OF 1000. Not a suggested retail price in any way or form. They don't quote a SRP in lots of 1000 guys. The suggested retail price is the same for any quantity.

Yeah I didn't read the first few posts. Like mmonnin said, maybe those are prices they want us to see, and are inflated from what their lot prices really are.
The big resellers get an additional 'consideration'. It is supposed to be a volume based payment to conver advertising and promotional expenses. It is one of those grey areas.
Another factor is selling the CPU as a loss-leader. If Joe Blowe is building a new system, he'll probably start with a certain CPU in mind, then add MB, memory, etc. If Newegg can offer the lowest price on CPU's they will likely get the rest of the customers order. They still end up making money overall, even if they don't make a dime on the processor itself.

The AMD Opteron processor models 146 HE and 140 EE are priced at $733 in 1,000-unit quantities. These prices are - well they are - I can't believe this!! A year ago I bought 4 Barton 2500's for $150.00 each and that was a bargain. Then I got some from NewEgg for $90.00 and now look what TigerDirect is doing.
