Prescott hot potato review & monster test

edited February 2004 in Science & Tech
Every man loves his toy, and age has no bearing on the urge in getting the most talk about “hot” item on the market. In this case, I am talking about the “hot potato”, Intel Prescott 2.8E. Months before the Feb.2 2003 release, the Prescott had a long delay and rumors filled thermal disastrous controversy and the lack of performance to the current Northwood.

Dear god. All the ranting about how hot it runs just make me sick. The reviewers who continues to use the word "hot" as a thing to make others not buying the chip is just...lame. What difference does it make to enthusiasts who have decent cooling (which MOST have)? 50c or 65c. Just numbers. You don't get a faster cpu cause it's only 50c.

However, i do agree that Prescott is a stupid release if they plan to sell it to the big guns like Dell, HP etc. They CANNOT provide decent cooling in their awful cases. The P4C lines of cpu is just as fast but on the other hand, they cost about the same. Prescott scales a lot better than Northwood over 4 gigs though which to me looks like they have a good foundation to stand on when they start produce Prescott at .009

The thing does over 4 gigs on the boxed heatsink as it is. Wasn't tbred hot as hell when it first came out? Yes. Same history again.

Or you can give the Prescott a run for its money with a M1.8.
You are right Mac, temp is relitive.
Intell's problem is that they aren't sure where they are going, and they are getting there fast.
