Expo 2021 is online!
We'll be having a virtual Expo Icrontic (EPIC) the week of Mon June 21 to Sun June 27!
After the great success of @BobbyDigi's Not-Expo in 2020, we've decided to use the (hopefully) waning days of the pandemic to bring you a slightly more elaborate version. Call it... a pandEPIC.
We're selling tickets to help fund the webserver once again, but this year there's swag! You choose:
- $12 to PARTICIPATE — with an official attendee badge for your collection, mailed to your doorstep! (BYO lanyard) or...
- $60 for FULL SWAG — event badge, a small Icrontic logo Yeti mug, event stickers, and more!
All attendees will get a special role in Discord and access to an event exclusive channel.
There will be events that may charge additional fees (like a virtual Escape Room and a Murder Mystery) — we'll collect those closer to event time. We're going low tech this year, too: no EventBrite registration, just a Google Form & PayPal. No t-shirts, either, they're hard enough to pull off in-person.
The tentative agenda for the week:
- Mon: Opening Ceremony & Werewolf Introduction
- Tue: Video Game
- Wed: Video Game, Movie
- Thu: Escape Room
- Fri: Casino Night (Beach Party)
- Sat: Murder Mystery, Video Game, Prize Drawing, Warpath
- Sun: Comedy Brunch (stand up comedy stream)
Feature games will include:
- Golf with your friends
- Minecraft creative build
- Jackbox
- Organized boardgaming times
- ...and more TBA!
We've studiously cut costs for the webserver / "business" over the past year so we're down to $700/yr (from ~$1300 previously). If you'd like to donate directly, you can PayPal me at destruction@gmail.com. You can also add $50 to your ticket price and I'll upgrade a $10 ticket to a FULL SWAG ticket (if possible).
Fri May 28 is the hard cutoff to allow for shipping times.
Big thanks to our host @BobbyDigi, swag coordinator @HumerusMeg, as well as @CB, @elyxandra, @GnomeQueen, and @GHoosdum for their help getting this off the ground.

What's up with boardgames this year? igya!
FIRST: If you want to play any online boardgames with Icrontic this year during PandEpic make sure you have a boardgamearena.com account, AND that you are friends with me on the site, at the very least. All the tourneys, and most of the spontaneous games will be played there.
TOURNEYS!
On Tuesday night at 6 EST we will hold the EpIC classic Carcassonne single elimination bracket! We wont be able to do quick-game rules because BGA does not offer that as an option, but the bracket will be run by the site, and the online nature should make the games pretty quick anyway. This will likely be the most heavily attended of the boardgame events because everyone loves Carcassonne, and most everyone already knows how to play (and it's an evening time-slot). If you don't know how to play yet (what?) then you should learn now, unlike the other two tourneys, (due to time constraints) the Carcassonne event will not begin with a rules explanation. We'll make sure everyone is gathered, get the bracket filled in, then jump right into the first round of matches.
On Wednesday afternoon at 2pm EST we will have a Railroad Ink Swiss tourney! The event will begin with a brief rules explanation, as I know this game will be new to many of you, but no fear! it's a very easy to learn game (one of the reasons I've picked it for the event). After we go over the rules, we'll start in on a Swiss series of five games. Game one will run the original Railroad Ink with no expansion, then games 2-5 will each run a different one of the four original expansions. In between each game, we'll get a quick run-down of the next expansion, which are all also very easy to learn. The winner of the tourney will be determined by the best performance across all five games. I'll have to run this one manually, tho because BGA does not allow a Swiss tourney with different settings for each game, but you wont have to do anything special. I'll handle it all.
On Thursday afternoon at 2pm EST we will have a Splendor Swiss tourney! The event will begin with a brief rules explanation. Splendor is slightly more complex than Railroad Ink, but only slightly, and there are no expansions, just the base game. This tourney will be run by BGA because we'll do something it can handle: a 3-player (per table) 5-round Swiss series. Winner will be the winningest player after five rounds.
BGA has a good spectate feature, so anyone who wants to to watch can do so easily. I'll post links to each game in the PandEpic chat so anyone can take a look, even if you don't want to jump into playing.
Finally:
Casual boardgames room! Just as at a meatspace EpIC, anytime you are not doing something else feel free to visit the tabletop room to join a spontaneous boardgames event. I'll try to be around to teach/host games as I love to do. BUT because timezones, I wont always be around to facilitate, however that's okay because I don't own the box of games this year, so if you want to organize a game with people who are not me while I'm not around, it's relatively simple! Everything will be on Boardgamearena (or a small selection of games on steam if everyone happens to have them).
[Side note: many boardgames on Steam are junk for one reason or another, but here are a few that you should probably get because they are good implementations: Ticket to Ride, Small World, Wingspan, Pandemic, Armelo, Scythe]
I am super late to the party on this because reasons but I can't wait.
Congratulations to all the winners!
