2 Questions...

edited February 2004 in Science & Tech
What's up all...cool site! Thanks for helping computer illiterate guys like myself.

Before I ask this, I have done a search...tried some suggestions, BUT I keep getting a "Links" folder in my IE favorites. It's always empty, and it installs itself. I delete it and it comes back. I unchecked a box in "Folder Options", but it still pops up in there. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to short-media :) Be sure to check out our folding team :)

    These things can go:

    O1 - Hosts: 216.87.210.71 search.kazaa.com
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\evntsvc.exe -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe
    O12 - Plugin for .spop: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins\NPDocBox.dll

The checkit86 stuff-- I'm not too sure about that. It seems to be a popup blocker, but it sure is installed "deeply" for it to just be a popup blocker. If I were you I'd kill it, and stop using internet explorer (switch to mozilla or firefox) altogether, and kill all that checkit86 crap.

Here is a solution, courtesy of Microsoft :
Cannot Move, Delete, or Rename Links Folder on Favorites Menu
View products that this article applies to.
This article was previously published under Q179599
    SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to move, delete, or rename the Links folder on the Favorites menu in Internet Explorer, it is automatically re-created the next time you start your computer.
    CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Links folder is a special Internet Explorer folder that cannot be moved, deleted, or renamed.
    RESOLUTION
Although the Links folder cannot be deleted, the properties of the Links folder can be set to Hidden so that the folder is no longer displayed when you open the Favorites.

To set the properties of the Links folder to Hidden:

    Click Favorites on the toolbar.
Right-click the Links folder, and then click Properties.
Click to select the Hidden check box.
    Click OK.
You can press F5 to refresh the file listing and the Links folder will no longer be displayed, although it will still be in the system and function normally.

    MORE INFORMATION
When the Links folder is recreated, it does not contain any Web page shortcuts you may have added. It contains only the following default Web page shortcuts:

    Best of the Web
    Channel Guide
    Customize Links
    Internet Explorer News
    Internet Start
The Links folder on the Favorites menu contains the same Web page shortcuts that are on the Links toolbar. When you add a Web page to the Links folder or the Links toolbar, its shortcut is copied to the <windows>\Favorites\Links folder, where <windows> is the name of the folder in which Windows is installed. If user profiles are enabled on your computer, the Web page shortcut is copied to the <windows>\Profiles\<username>\Favorites\Links folder, where windows is the name of the folder in which Windows is installed, and <username> is the name you use to log on to Windows.

For additional information about how to use the Links toolbar in Internet Explorer, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Thanks for signing up! Talkbass is a great site. It's quite a bit bigger than this site so sometimes it's hard to keep up with the posts. If I don't visit for a day, I'm lost in a sea of new threads :D

But, to anyone on THIS site who plays bass, I can't recommend a better site where a bunch of bass experts and n00bs hang out.
