Disappointing 3dMark 2001 Score with new R9800pro

Title says it all.

I'm getting just over 18000 with my new 9800pro card & i'm dsiappointed. I was getting those scores with a softmodded 9500np in the same rig.

Does this look normal, was I expecting too much or is something wrong?

Specs as per rig 1 in sig.

Did you make sure to check your settings in the control panel? That does seem a tad bit low ... what was the core/mem on the 9500?

18,000 sounds about right with your setup actually. 18,000 isn't a bad score at all. I only get 21k-22k with my setup, which is 3.7ghz and an o/c R9800p.

Jimborae on the other hand, I would think his score to be a higher, since his barton is running @ 2.7(edit typo: 2.6GHz) in the benchmark.

doesn't it only matter what the picture quality is like and how it runs games?

Of course! (thats why I didn't buy a gf fx card :P) But wouldn't you like it if your computer was running to its full capacity? I personally don't like it when its not performing up to what it should be. I mean, if other comptuers with the same setup are showing better scores, that usually means there is something wrong, no?

Sorry croc, the rig is at 2.4ghz, the machine at 2.6ghz in the 3dmark score is the rig when it had the softmod 9500np in it.

So I've check the driver setting, all is ok there, core is at 451, mem at 380, thats faster than the 9500 but not by much. Hmmm maybe a clean install as it had an Nvidia card in it before this one.

Wouldn't thought a score of 18,000 would mean anything was really wrong. You get your graphcis card to play games... How does it play games Jim? Unless all you use it for is benchmarking then i guess this would be a big deal.

I've got a FX 5900 on the way & the benchies I've seen have not been that far behind a R9800 pro. Besides I'll be softmodding it into a FX 5950 as soon as it arrrives.

Umm all seems good apart from Halo, which seems a bit choppy. I didn't buy the card just to bench but I do like having a good 3dMark score. I was hoping to get somewhere near 20K, or at least a performance level above the softmodded 9500np thats all. May be my 9500 was real a good one & I should have appreciated it more, god rest it's soul. :)

Jim, we need to sort that out my friend. You should have at least 1500 points more on that setup.

Reinstall DX9 (there is actually a DX uninstaller that works) and dust clean the system for video and chipset drivers. Install DX, Chipset drivers WITHOUT the SW drivers for the harddrive and finally the videodrivers. Defrag, set the driver properties to use "application preference" on the D3D tab. Also, if a tv-out cable or dongle is connected, remove that as well as it will kill performance. Disable the tv monitor in the driver if it is enabled. I'm on ICQ if you need any help.

Jim should even be able to kill 20,500 with some tweakage. It takes time though.
Does those BH5 work good on your NF7 Jim? My NF7 hates BH5. And the new Lanparty was a doa so i have to wait a few weeks more.

Just starting to benchmark now after doing all Mack said.

    Mack,

Well either the board doesn't like anything much past 220 or the board dont like my BH-5. Which is kinda odd because my original NF7-S rev 1.2 would do 234 fsb with this memory.

Gonna try modding the cpu further soon to see if thats what's holding it back.

Will report back soon with some scores

It's better, still room for more. What other sticks of memory do you have?

Just for testing...can you see what that Twinmos original do with memtest? Take the wother winbonds out and test just the Twinmos. Timings doesn't matter, i just want to se what fsb it does. My board HATES winbond, but my twinmos original ( 3700 ) completes 3d up to about 250 fsb without vdimm mod. Maybe you have the same luck?

250! eeek. I thought vanilla winbond was just your usual generic stuff.

    Right I'll report back later.
