Dual displays

edited February 2004 in Hardware
I have an odd situation, I want to have a dual display with the main monitor being a 17" flat panel, but I want the second display to be a 32" widescreen television. Please note I do not just want a clone of the main monitor it must be an extension of the first monitor. Is this possible or am I talking crazy?

I am getting a P4 3ghz with 1024mb ram and was wondering if the Radeon 9800 Pro (256mb) could handle the dual display task as mentioned.

On a slightly separate subject has anyone used the dual screen software from http://www.maxivista.com/ Presumably as it is software then in theory it should not stress the video card so much as you are using a completely separate PC and not just a second screen. How does it work and is it any good?

Comments please!

The 9800pro can easily handle dual display.. including to the TV

.. as NUTS as it sounds ;D

Maxivista isn't really for that kind of task and ATI's inbuilt drivers will work out of the box dual support :)

If you want more flexibility with it, go to http://www.ultramon.com and get their software. I use dual monitor at both and work. Wouldn't want just one monitor ever again.

    Douglas,

Please note that if the TV is a conventional CRT TV then the image for desktop will be poor. That's just the way it is due to scan lines from the video card to the TV. (max a TV sees is around 525 lines and it can't support 640 or higher)

But games and DVD output will look just great.

Thank you, I would like to add that yesterday Shorty convinced me into ordering an AMD 64 3200+ with 1024ram and 256mb 9800XT, ohhhhhhhh I'm going to have fun!
