What a dog 2500 I saw last night!
I went to a friend's house last night to do some overclocking on his new Nforce2 rig and I saw what I think is about the worst overclocking 2500 I've ever seen. It was a week 50 or 51, locked retail 2500. Now, my buddy didn't listen to me when he bought his hsf and bought some kind of Speeze crap instead of buying a Thermalright produuct, so the cooling isn't the best in the world, but is better than the stock AMD cooler. This pos 2500 wouldn't even overclock to 2.2, even when raising the vcore to 1.8v or so. I couldn't go higher than that on the vcore due to thermal stability issues becase the hsf couldn't handle any more heat, but man, that is 1 sorry proc, Like everyone always says, overclocking is luck of the draw and that proc proved it.
He had also bought a Shuttle AN35 board to replace the Biostar pos he was using and it also started giving trouble I believe before I left. The damn board would reboot when you would go to shut down when shut down was selected. It also hard locked a couple of times, once even at default speed and vcore. I finally shut it down with the power switch on the psu and we let it sit for about 15 minutes then booted up and then ran and shut down good, which seems to be telling me that some component on the mobo is getting flaky when it's at full operating temp. Abyways, we left if folding at stock speed last night to see if we could duplicate the locking and shutdown problems again. All the rails of the psu are fine, so I don't believe it's causing the problem either. If the Shuttle board gives him more problems he is going to go back in with the Biostar and rma the shuttle back to newegg. I've also convinced him to buy a SLK900a for cooling too.
