It brings warm feelings to see it stomp gigantic holes in Intel's best.

AMD holds the speed crown once more? Why I think they do!

See, here's a $400 chip that's engineered correctly. When 2200MHz can perform better than 3200MHz. It's time AMD shows its true quality once more... I feel the days of the Thunderbird coming back.

its so true. on top of that, amd is doing pretty well in terms of power/$ with their 3000+

i want one so bad. i hate the urge to upgrade for no reason :)

What IF a $350 Prescott stomps hole in AMD's best? What IF a cheaper Intel than AMD cpu beats the AMD this time? They are very similar in price now which up until now have been AMD's big stregnth.

    Ohh...btw, from the reviews of the 3400+ i have seen (7), it's a poor performer/buck compared to 3000+.

I doubt that a 1MB Prescott 3.0/3.2ghz or is going to outperform the P4EE 2MB featured in the reviews. The only way the Prescoot can compete is if it is very OCable. Which the 3400+ doesn't seem to be....

What if a $350 Prescott stomps a hole in AMD's best?

I'll buy one. Why? Because I will buy a product that's worth buying, that's designed well, that's designed with performance in mind as opposed to ridiculous numbers designed solely to lure the stupid ones in droves.

That said, I wouldn't count on the Prescott being stellar; I just have a gut feeling that it won't be even remotely close to the quantum leap needed for the P4 architecture.
