These files are located in C:\Windows:

{00000000-00000000-0000000B-00001102-00000002-80271102}.BAK
{00000000-00000000-0000000B-00001102-00000002-80271102}.CDF

Any Idea what they are?

They are just temp files, something to do with classes and registry entries afaik.

It IS safe to delete them.

    I got rid of them.

A little more checking and I found that these were "Channel Definition Files".

    Hmmm.

Running them through a filter proggie I have basically told me this: The first file means you've been channeling (downloading) naughty stuff. The second one means Microsoft knows about it. :D

From what I've read, I believe you are right. I don't subscribe to any streaming sites, I think those files were from the default link you get when you run wmp for the first time.

At any rate, they've been gone for three week, with no harm to the system.
