DVDR prices in Denmark
Today I went shopping in Germany along with a friend and my family.
I bought some candy and all the usual stuff.
Usefull background info.
In Denmark we have an organisation called CopyDan, supposedly they represent the danish musicians and administer the taxes collected from recordable media sales.
The government has placed taxes on all recordable media.
Video tapes, CD-R, casette tapes, mini discs, recordable dvd's, flash cards and memory sticks and I probably missed something?
Basically all media that can contain music or video.
The tax varies from product to product.
This tax is then passed on to CopyDan, but some musicians are complaining that they do not receive money from CopyDan. (Wonder where the money is ending up?)
The tax was lowered considerably not too long ago, mainly to reduce the import of recordable media across the danish border.
I haven't bought one recordable cd in Denmark, since the tax was introduced.
But they didn't lower the taxes on recordable dvd's at all.
And here comes the shocking figures.
In Denmark 50 recordable DVD's would cost apprx. €267 / $330 / £178.48.
In Germany 50 recordable DVD's cost €50 / $61.78 / £33.4
Net saving. €217 / $268.22 / £145.08
As you can see you can save a lot of money by purchasing DVD media in Germany.
The worst thing is that CopyDan gets most of the price difference.
Just had to share this experience.
I have no DVD burner yet, but I couldn't resist this massive difference in price, I bought 10 DVDR.
