smp advice - ish ...

wasnt sure exactly where to put this but this seems adequate:

apart from my main a64 system, I currently have 2 other desktop systems .. a nf7-s w/ 2500+@2.3 and an a7n8x w/ 2500+ @ 2.2. heres my question.

Ive been wanting to bring down the tower configuration ... not so much to save power as such .. but because id like to free up a couple of slots on the powerstirps and on my router.

so. Ive been looking into getting a dually motherboard to run my two 2500's in, and selling the 2 other motherboards, thereby consolidating resources and getting a free case to eventually house the dual opteron rig i have in mind.

How much will i lose in terms of processing power (dually rig will mainly be folding rig + 3D rendering node) by doing this ...

is this a bad idea ?? will i lose or gain at all?

edit:// and if it does seem like a good idea, any advice on motherboard/psu etc ?? im leaning towards the MSI (k7d master) right now, but as far as XP's go im a complete n00b, only worked with Xeons and g5's

FAH only cares about Clock speed (I believe). So if you can get the Dualie up and running at the same mhz you wont lose anything.

The BIG question is will those Bartons run together stably. It's hit or miss. Mine didn't but Geeky1 does.

FAH will end up having the same performance if you can get to the same MHz but the 3D rendering will suffer from the lower FSB since the K7D wont be able to go as high as either of the boards he has it in now.
