Is Sata adequately supported by this 2.6 Kernel?
My particular problem led me to believe that my Sil3112 chipset wasn't fully supported by the kernel. Now that I think about it, SATA is a fairly recent piece of technology. This would mean that any attempts to switch the onboard-controller for a Raid-pci one would be pointless.

Is this the case?

I'm 99% sure that no Sil3112 RAID and ICH5 RAID are supported by the linux kernel. Those are software driven RAID devices, not purely hardware RAID. You'd be just as well off to make a linux software RAID on your devices. This, of course, won't let you dual boot, but if that isn't of concern to you, then you have that option.

Thinking about this a little more, I seem to remember someone writing a driver that does work for the software RAID for one of those two (I think it was the Sil3XXX. Hunt around on google a bit, maybe that development has progressed since I last looked.

Are you referring to Jeff Garzik and his libata code?
