computer not running programs

yes, that does sound funny i know, but when i double click on a shortcut the comptuer says 'cannot find c:/program files/whatever i'm trying to run.exe' however when i right click on it, then click 'run as' and then select eighter administrator or my acct, and enter in the respective password, the program runs.

Also, when i open up a file that a specific program can open (such as a PDF) it will open in the program that it was assigned to open in (acrobat reader for instance) without any proglems

it started happening yesterday while i installed norton AV 2004 beta (if that matters).

running XP pro SP1
athlon 1700+ @1.55
kr7a-RAID
(rest of specs are in profile)

any ideas?

Uninstall NAC 2004 beta ;) If that doesn't work then pray you had system restore enabled.

You might try running a thorough cleaning of your registry after you uninstall NAV.

I would uninstall anything Symantec, then search the registry for Symantec & Norton.

As an experiment, you might try creating a new user with administrator privileges, then see if it happens under the new account. It's worth a try to avoid the reloading fun.
