RAM Decision

edited March 2004 in Hardware
Ok, the last thing I have to do before ordering my new box is to pick out the RAM. The motherboard is a ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe which supports dual channel memory. So which of these would you choose:

1 Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 at $80.00

OR

2 Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM at $45.00 each

Thanks

The two brands being what they are, if I had to choose ONLY from between these two memories.. I would pick the Corsair. Because it's reliable, it's a known source, and Corsair is worth every penny.

If you could pick any memory from newegg for around $90.00 what would you suggest considering the ASUS motherboard I'm using?

Hard to get a good set of 512(2*256) for $90.

    Get 2 of these http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-150-563&depa=1

Buffalo ram. If you check the reviews, these sticks come with winbond ch5 sticks. My sticks are good for up to 217FSB (pc3500) @ 5-3-2-2 @ 2.6v. Excellent ram. Buying anything else would be a huge mistake.

    CABLE IDE|18" RD 3H BLACK RT $3.35
CPU AMD|2500/333 ATHLON XP BARTON $80.00
    MB NFORCE2 A7N8X-E DELUXE ASUS RTL $117.00
    2 DDR 256|PC3200 DD4002-S256/WC BFL% $88.00

That will be one hell of a system. If you were gonna overclock I'd recommend a 2400-Mobile chip, but since you aren't a 2500 is a great value.

Chances are you'll never run that ram at it's max speed but buying a great overclocker for less money just isn't something that should be passed up. In the future if you feel the need to tweak, you'll be happy you bought this instead of some crappy "value" ram or GeiL :)

Thanks for fixing my signature prime! The new comp will be folding along side the ol' P4 once it gets here.
