Anyone have a clue?
When my 120 WD SATA started dying the writes got real slow on my array so that's where I'm getting my ideas from.
One way to test it is to ghost your image to a cd then run the drives individually and ghost back to each one with it hooked up alone and run tests on each in turn and see if one has writes that are tanking.
Getting ready to run Hitachi's "Drive Fitness" program. I'll report back.
I'll have to get a new Ghost that writes to NTFS & supports RAID drivers before I can test each drive itself..
I've never RMAed anything, but I saw this @ Newegg (RE: Extending Standard Warranty): I didn't choose to extend my warrenty, so does that mean I have 1 full year on these HDDs? The invoice date is 1/20/2004, so they're really new. I just got to know to send them to NewEgg or Hitachi.
Please let me know how long NewEgg covers on HDDs and I'll ship this one back ASAP.
/me PaRK goes and buys CD-Rs to backup ~150GB (Backup IDE is only 80GB)
I would CALL Newegg, phone number is 1 (800) 390-1119. Have invoice or order number handy. Tell them your problem, the HD fails to validate with mfr util. Bet they set up an RMA real fast.... If you REALLY want a 24-48 hour delay, email them at service@newegg.com with your telephone number-- me, I just call them and set the RMA up if needed. Have even gotten them to place a web order when I could not (site revision versus browser thing)-- VIA phone....
You should be within a standard 90 day minimum OEM RMA time frame, right now and for a while, but call and ask, on Monday, please. They are on West Coast, if you are on East Coast, try between 11 AM and 7 PM your time.
