Freeware Audio Tool?

edited March 2004 in Internet & Media
I've got some MP3's that are encoded at high Bitrate that I want to downmix (to save space on my mp3 player.)

I've been using CDex for this, but it hasn't wanted to work lately.

Can anyone reccomend a good freeware program to re-encode mp3s?

WinAmp. Download the latest out_LAME plugin (the WinAmp Pro mp3 encoder costs money), set that as your output, configure it the way you want including a target directory, and add all the files you want to downmix to your playlist. Hit play and it'll batch encode all of them.

I use foobar2k for most of my encoding/decoding/playback. All you'll have to do is:
    • Configure conversion settings (ogg,mp4 etc)
    • select the files you want to convert
    • Convert

dBpowerAMP Music Converter works well for me for doing conversions of most modern filetypes, aac => MP3, MP3=> MP3, etc. works well for doing bitrate down conversions
