No boot, no beep

edited March 2004 in Hardware
I had just installed an 80 GB HD on my p4(2 GB) in addition to the
old 40 GB.
The system did not complain till the next day while I was surfing it
just blanked out, though the power light on the casing was still on and
also a small light on the mother board (intel GBV board)

I shut it down and waited for some time and rebooted, nothing, no
beeps no display, though the standy light on the monitor was on.

Could it be the power supply- the fan had a tendency to freeze now
and then. Is it the bios? Can any body help! Worse my warranty
expired just last month. And now I'm on my own.

First stop PSU, if it was working ok-ish before you added another power-straining device (the additional hard drive).. Id hedge bets on it.

    Also, consider the memory.

List some more full specs on your system :)

yeah sounds like the psu. take everything apart to make sure you didn't jostle anything though. sometimes you might just bump into your vid card or ram and loosen it up a little. it happens.

Um, looks like PSU.... But, as and if you get video, check and make sure the power button setting in Power Management settings in BIOS is not set to suspend instead of on\off ALSO, please. To check and see if this might be the problem, push the reset button on front of case, see if silly thing boots....
