i used an allied 450w for awhile. the voltages are rock solid and it has an exceptionally strong 3.3v line, but it turns out that it was giving me the "whine of death" (even though i couldn't hear it!) that signals a psu's impending doom.

do with that what you will

Apologies to the good soul who has this in their sig - I can't remember which one of our fine members gave me this great lead.

I bought one of these figuring I was not taking a very big gamble if it turned out to be crap. It is definitely not "crap" and has worked out great for me. I intend to buy a few more.

    $17 shipped!

Leadman has made PSUs for a LONG time-- since the 386DX2 era. They are reasonably voltage stable, not the MOST efficient but decent, and the Powmax name is thier OEM brand. Yes, good lead.

I tend to go with PSUs that have overcapacity for short times, like when a box boots up and detects drives, many drives are spinning up at once and drawing juice. So, I go with Channel Well Technologies PSUs right now. Basically, since I sell boxes and build them, I need boxes that folks can add things to, so the PSUs get OVERSPECED by 25% to 30% to allow for that. In Florida, I do not want a used PSU to sell-- period.

I'm using three Powmax 600 watt power supplies and except for the fact that all 3 had fans die on them, they are all humming along with no other problems once I replaced the fans. I, however, have no experience with the lower powered units.

    Good luck,

Gobbles, I use that very PSU and it works great! It has never given me any problems and voltages are rock stable on a heavily overclocked system. I recomend it.
