Athlon XP 2500 Temp

edited March 2004 in Hardware
I just installed an Athlon 2500 processor in my computer. I followed the instructions exactly and have the standard retail heatsink/fan installed. I didn't apply any thermal paste, just used the "thermal interface" material that was on the heatsink. The processor is running at 118 F. This seems pretty hot to me? Is this normal? Should I use an after market thermal paste? Any help?

Thanks
Greg

This is on a non-overclocked cpu, right?

If it is, that sounds pretty high to me. I had to use separate thermal paste on my retail heatsink/fan package. Unless they changed the package contents within the last year, you'll need to use thermal paste as well.

If that is idle, it's a bit on the high side. If the processor is fully loaded, you're fine.

As long as it's stable and not crashing don't worry about it. As your running stock speeds, you're fine all the way up to 60C/140F

One note though, the TIM material is only good for one application/use (usually). If you take off the heatsink you're going to have to scrap off the goo and use some heatsink paste
