Just one look at the benchmarks will show that the Athlon 64 FX-53 pegs a significant increase over the competition and its XP predecessor. This has nothing specifically to do with 64-bit versus 32-bit. It has everything to do with the clever minds at AMD taking the best from all of their processor lines and making it better. The icing on the cake that’s yet to be tasted comes in the form of a 64-bit operating system. 64-bit will bring a lot of benefits but those will take a while to filter down to the consumer. AMD’s 64-bit processors will be able to easily do double duty in the meantime.

The Athlon 64 FX-53 obliterated the competition in our gaming tests and more than held its own everywhere else, making a very strong argument for AMD's ownership of the Overall Performance Lead.

The Athlon64 FX clearly beats its archrival's processors in most of our benchmarks. The Intel processors all collect points, in some cases dramatically, in speed-sensitive applications such as rendering or audio and video compression, and with applications optimized for HyperThreading. However, as soon as 3D applications and games are run, FX steamrolls ahead. That must be annoying for Intel, since the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition is targeted for these applications.[/blockquote]
