CPU temps

edited March 2004 in Hardware
Hello

I am a little concerned about my CPU, it seems to be working fine and i can play games fine and use apps ok. However on certain programs it goes up to 100%, this can happen simply by holding the mouse button down in a pdf file!

Also when in the bios while looking at the hardware monitor i have seen my CPU temp rise from 35c to 46c and above upto a max of 53c just while sitting there doing nothing, yet load windows and my machine will sit there for ages and ages at a nice cool 35 to 38c!!

What the hell is going on here? Is there somthing wrong with my CPU?

Have you checked for spyware/trojans/other scummy software?

I am clear of those yes, but it doesn't explain heat increases while in the BIOS

Ummm. I might be out to lunch on this, but I thought being in the bios was full load on yer CPU.

Well, not normally. CPU at boot\post is under almost full load, yes, but because BIOS is active. But, "being in BIOS" can also mean you are selecting options which result in CMOS repprogramming when you save settings. The selection takes maybe 7% of the CPU, the programming is bursted so it might graba short chunk of 100% load (MIGHT). What MIGHT be happening is that fans might be running slower or BIOS might be defaulting voltage higher as you program, to CPU. Both would give temp increases.
