Radeon 9800XT going too Slow, Help!

edited October 2004 in Hardware
My new Radeon 9800XT is not working like it should be working! On Some games i'm getting realy bad frame rates!!

3d Mark 2003 seems to be ok and i can achieve over 6000 3d marks

NFS Underground is not running as fast as what it should and when i turn on 'light trails' the game will only turn out what looks like 10fps!! It works without that option but no where near what i thought it would.

Cazy Taxi 3 will only get 5fps! Also the game loads and i get two black liners on the screen and the graphics look strange

I tried Halo with the Graphics maxed and the res at 1024, it also seems to suffer in frame rates.

I have installed my Chipset drivers, running Catalist 4.3 and DirectX 9b

Should In try the Omega Drivers? But which one is the most stable for my card? If this does not work i am concerned there is somthing wrong with either my Motherboard or CPU!

    get the following programs:

    <a href="http://atitool.ocfaq.com/">ATI Tool</a>

    <A href="http://www.overclockersclub.com/downloadcenter/?action=file&id=12">Sisoft Sandra 2004</a>

Mess around with those. I'm not sure if they will salve the prob all the way, but they should show you what the problem is.

    Also, plz post your specs.

    Sure

    CPU: P4 2.4Ghz (533)
    Motherboard: Asus P4T533-c
    1gb RDRAM (Rambus)
    400W PSU

Got one hard drive and Two CD drives.

Why would i want to run ATI Tool? My card should run everything i have just nice now, but it don't!

What card did you have in the system before? when you install an ATI card after NVIDIA, or vice versa, without completely uninstalling the old drivers, you can have some problems.

i got the 9800 pro and when i play the game it almost has the same problem. on the edges of the card the lines are kind of jagged. ill try ati tool and sisoft.

Check your AGP speeds. Try to have the speed at 8x, and fast-write on in SMARTGART (Display Properties -> Advanced -> SMARTGART). I remember that was the problem with my 9700 pro. Also, check your bios to make sure you have the right settings.

    Could be a driver bug.

ok i started the ati tool but how does each test take? i mean i did both core and memory, and artifact.

I have now removed the card andf installed my 9600XT My games seem to run better with it! :(

Goint to take this card and install it in my friends PC (he has a 9800 pro) See if it has the same problems on that one, this will rule in or out problem with my Motherboard or CPU.

Any updates yet? Curious, since I'm in the market for a 9800Pro and I want to see what's up here....

I run fast-writes on in bios and off in SMARTGART for best performance ...give it a shot.

Are you running any anti-aliasing?? I know the light trails and motion blur in NFSU with fsaa causes the game to run extremele slowly. I also know it doesn't work in Halo. I don't know anything about Crazy taxi. I get the same slowness with my 9700 when i turn on fsaa, but not in other games that don't have any issues with fsaa. just an idea.

I just purchased a 9800 Pro 256 (upgraded from a 9600 Pro 128) and noticed a performance DECREASE. I read some forums where the 256mb cards were not having their memory used properly by the drivers and that rolling back to an earlier catalyst or holding out for a new driver will probably help. Havn't tried it yet since I'm still going through an XP reinstall.
