My problem could be in any range of parts

The PC in question holds:

Shuttle AN35/N Ultra nforce2 mobo
1700+ thoroughbred
1 X 512 mb pc2700 Kingston Valueram
PNY GeForce 3 Ti500 64mb AGP video card with stock cooling device
Diamond mx300 sound card

350 watt psu (Antec I believe)

WD Caviar 80 gb 7200 rpm 2 mb cache
LiteOn 52X32X52 CDRW
?brand? Floppy Drive

crappy keyboard, logitech mouse

Windows XP Pro

OKAY anyways moving on. I have rounded IDE and floppy cables, and I zip tied and used electrical tape to control the wire situation. I am only getting 6670 3dmarks on 3dmark2001se, and I feel as though the overall performance of the pc should be higher than it is. What am I doing wrong? As of right now it is not OCed at all but it will be soon enough. Does this collection of parts seem to have any obvious conflicts? Is there anything minor that could be hindering it? What would be the best part to upgrade next for overall performance?

Thanks!

Trust me, for a GF3 TI500 you're getting decent scores in 3DMark '01 especially with it being a 1700+ at stock speeds.

For what it's worth, I have my 1700+ running at 2000+ speeds using the so-so stock heatsink that came with the CPU.

Get yourself a few more points at no charge.

Madmat hit the nail on the head...

The video card is holding your 3d mark scores back big time.

I wouldn't consider that a bad score at all with that GPU. 3dmark isn't the best test of system performance and benchmarking .. especially when using an old GPU.

oh i intend to OC it lol. I have a very nice hsf on it so I should be all set there, and I'm only at like 30 Celsius right now. The CPU was up to 1992 mhz according to its previous owner, and he has been fairly honest so far. i also bought a vantec cooler for the gf3 so we will push that too lol. just wanted to see about anything hardware.
