We have been trying a new algorithm for projects 858 and 859. This algorithm requires shorter deadlines to run efficiently. Of course, these short deadlines must be balanced with what donators can return. We have gotten feedback that the retry deadline was too short for many CPUs and so we have temporarily increased it to 24 days, while we analyze to see how well the new methods worked.

We will also try to put more info in the FAQ to make it more clear why these short deadlines are important.

The deadline was at 8 for the big 160 pointers. Now its at 24 days. The retry deadline was the deadline before the servers send out another copy of the WU to another user since the first one was not sent back in quickly enough.

This is not the deadline where you would be cut off from not getting any more points. Thats a later deadline. And if you didnt make the 8 day deadline, the WU is still being used, so keep folding those huge monsters.
