I'm going to build a pc to use as a gaming console on a 55' HDTV through a DVI port. For video im using my old Radeon9700 pro.

Im going XPC form factor and I think Im going to get this Shuttle barebones PC .

CPU Support: AMD Athlon XP/Duron (Socket A, Max.FSB 400)
Chipsets: NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 + MCP-T
Memory: 2x 184pin (DDR333/400 up to 2GB)
IDE: 2x ATA133
Graphics: N/A
Expansion Slot: 1x PCI, 1x AGP 8X
Audio: Realtek ALC650
LAN: Realtek 8201BL
Extension Bay: 2x 3.5", 1x 5.25"
Front Panel Ports: 2x USB, 1x mini 1394, Audio ports
Back Panel Ports: 1x COM, 2x PS/2, 1x SPDIF_In, 1x SPDIF_Out, 1x RJ45, 2x USB, 2x 1394,Audio ports
Power Supply: 200W(PFC)
Dimension: 300 x 200 x 185 mm

But which CPU to get? I would like to OC it if possible. Ive heard quite a bit about the mobile bartons at Newegg but will that chip run in that board? Which CPU has the most bang per buck ratio these days?

BTW, Battlefield Vietnam in 55 inch high definition anyone? :vimp:

XP Mobile Barton. 2500+ is a good choice.

I second the 2500 Barton, best bang for the buck. Get soe PC3200 RAM and crank that Barton up to 3200 Speeds, just allow for adequate cooling though.

The above suggestions sound good, but 200w psu? I'd look into that.

    Are 2500 bartons unlocked?

Some are but you can up the FSB to play around with them, I hear a lot of noise about "Locked or Unlocked", My Abit NF7 and 2500+ lets me play with the multiplyer and the FSB. The 2500 will go to a 3200 simply by moving the FSB to 200. Simple as that. If you check NewEgg, 3200's go for $189 or so and 2500's are at $89. That to me makes since economically. Also, you will definately want to look into a 300W PSU before you go crazy with adding things to the inside.

KingFish: 200w is about as high as the SFF PCs come with. They provide plenty of power for these little beasts. I have two hard drives and a DVD/CD-RW drive in mine, along with a 2400+ (power hog) and a Radeon AIW 7500. It chugs along just fine.

The MOBILE Bartons are unlocked since they go in Lappies. Thats how speed throttling works, they lower the multiplier to slow the CPU down.

The PSU should be fine for this system.

the 2400 mobile has been getting rave reviews in all the forums, it's unlocked and overclockes just as well as the 2500 mobile and costs less. The other advantage is you are using a SFF case is that it is only 1.45v at stock therefore generates less heat, less heat less problems in a SFF case :) I would deff go with the mobile 2400
