Title is a little self explanatory. Price on the two is within $10. Does the 512 cache more than make up the speed difference. Probably not going to be overclocked. Is there a significant temp difference. Thnx.

    Welcome to Short Media.

There's a 333 MHz difference between the two processors (2700+ = 2.167 GHz, 2500+ = 1.83 Ghz). The extra cache will not make up this difference except in a very select few circumstances. The temperature will vary greatly across batches of chips. Since AFAIK 2700+'s haven't been produced for a while you're likely to get an older (and hotter) chip whereas the 2500+ are probably AMD's best seller and you'll most likely get a nice new and cooler running chip. The temperature difference will also depend on your cooler of course.

Either way there's going to be minor differences, I'd personally go with the 2500+ (since its probably the cheaper one) and then consider a little overclocking later on down the road. One thing to note is that the 2500+ will definitely have a locked multiplier whereas the 2700+ may not.

What board are you planning on going with?

2500 Barton all the way man, ou won't be dissapointed!!! Depending on the RAM, it will run as a 3200 with no issue at all. There is $100 savings right there.

I have 2400 thoro's running on the farm and can vouch for the heat issue. Get a good heatsink if you plan on going with them. You'll have much more headroom with the 2500 if you plan on any overclocking. I think I'd choose the 2500 in this case.

They are cooler than either of the above and have headroom for OCing if you want to do that.
