Nav

I installed NAV on my computer the other day, did a scan, found a few buggers, etc...

Then, when I restarted, it had this message about "Couldn't load this file whatever.exe" and autoprotect was turned off. So I uninstalled, and the same message from NAV came up, weird. What's the name of the program at Symantec that deletes everything?

if you search for that specific error on symantec's website, you'll most like ly find an answer. I find they are excellent at debugging their software

RNav or SymCln are the two removal apps that you can find somewhere on the norton/symantec website. Just search for removal/uninstall tools/utilities and you should find them. Good luck.

Right, in the Support Searcher, give it the version of NAV you have, and search on "Manual Uninstall." You will get a set of about 9 pages, and links to the uninstaller\remover for your NAV. When done uninstalling, reboot. Then reinstall NAV, but run LiveUpdate times 3 (minimum) after installign and rebooting. REASON is this-- the first update gets a standard package, the second gets more recent programs, often the third will get the most recent definitions. They decided to break the packs, rather than shove 15-25 MB at folks all at once. Certain things need to be fetched first, one fo the updates will be to LiveUpdate itself also.

IF you want all the defs at once and are on broadband, stop after 2 times of LiveUpdate, go to Symantec's site, search the security response area for Intelligent Updater, download it, and it will grab all the defs and itself in a biggish download, then update defs to current as of today or yesterday for you. Your normal LiveUpdate grabs defs weekly, this one is an image snapshot of current defs plus an updater\installer.
