DDR SDRAM Prices to Surge in April

edited April 2004 in Science & Tech
A report assumes that prices on 256MB DDR SDRAM memory modules will soar by 14% in the first half of April due to exceptionally high demand and lower than expected supply of DRAM products.

[blockquote]Analysts believe that the reason for the price climb is tightening supply of memory components, which allows DRAM manufacturers to control the pricing. Even major PC makers, such as Dell and HP, cannot secure enough DDR SDRAM modules for their computers shipping shortly and have to accept higher prices to meet their own demand.

It doesnt effect 512MB modules? I guess that's not too bad then...

What he probably means are the 256 Mb modules put on chips (8x256 Mb = 256 MB). The 256 Mb are currently used as the benchmark as they're high volume. If 256 Mb modules are rising you can bet the higher density modules are rising faster (remember double sided 256 Mb's gives you 512 MB as well).

Damnit, this is all I need now. I am about to buy RAM, should I buy _now_ or wait till they drop in price?

I'm thinking now, unless you have noticed a price spike already.

Holy cow, bend over and grab your ankles, it's going through the roof. I quoted a 256mb stick of generic PC333 yesterday for $62, today it's up to $78. :eek3:
