XP Reloaded Details Still Sketchy

edited April 2004 in Science & Tech
It has been reported that Microsoft doesn't plan to ship XP Reloaded as an interim OS release. Instead, the company is still wrestling with how to market and package an OS that's changed dramatically in the 3 years since the company first released it.

[blockquote]Before that can happen, however, Microsoft has to release XP SP2, which will ship in June. Plans for distributing SP2 to customers are still up in the air, however. For example, will the company replace the current XP retail boxes with XP SP2 boxes? I think so, although most XP licenses are sold with new computers. The plans for XP SP2 will affect XP Reloaded, and no one knows how Microsoft will spin XP as we get closer to the 2004 holiday season.

So aside from being 64-bit capable, what's so "dramatically diffrent" about it?

I think 64 bit is dramatic upgrade enough, though I think the integration of XP's service pack 2 is also very good.

Windows XP with 64 Bit and SP2 out of the box is a radically changed product from the XP of release.

I am getting tired of the "Reloaded" marketing hook though.

64-bit huh? I'm really skeptical of that inclusion since there is no real driver support manufacturer wide. It would create more headaches for M$ than anything else. That article is just a confirmation of "no firm plans whatsoever".

I can see them releasing XP with SP2 integrated along with 90b and WM9...sort of the "most secure and current OS available".
