Nothing better than your own suggestion except for an XT if thats in your price range.

Good luck finding a 9800 non pro. Further more good luck finding one with the memory needed to flash it to a pro. I'd just recommend waiting for a deal on a 9800 Pro. My cousin got a BBA Retail 9800 Pro 128 from Gateway not too long ago for $189 shipped.

You made a good decision. You are going to notice a HUGE difference compared to that old GeForce 4.

You can even flash the saphire to a 9800 XT so long as it has samsung memory.

thx:) if any of you have seen my post about the geforce 4, i tried it in my main rig and the radeon in the infiltrator, and it froze in my main rig doing the same exact thing so i ruled out the video card, i played ut2k4 for about 30 minutes with no hitches running 4x AA at 1024x768 and was getting a pounding 70-100+ frames, omg it looked beautiful i cant wait for it to get here, and come to think of it, the first radeon 9800 pro i have does have samsung ram >=) is there a sticky in the graphics and sound main that will teach how?

just an update, i ordered the card on a monday and it came that thursday, i love you newegg, the card came OEM in a large plastic bag containing the drivers CD, PowerDVD, and an assortment of cables and such, as well as the antistatic bag containg the dreaded 9800 pro :) i slapped it in and booted her up, instaled the cats 4.3's restarted, and it runs like a DREAM, i had a bit of trouble hooking it up to my TV, it kept being in black in white, i searched the net and found that i needed to use the Svideo cable that came with the card and it came up as color :) all in all i am very pleased with my second 9800 pro and recommend it to every 1 who wants to upgrade their video cards, now its ready for doom 3

Glad to hear you like it!!

I dont think there is a sticky on how to do it, but its pretty easy.

Check out this thread for more info.

there is even a zip file to dl.

the read me states "Make bootable a bootable floppy and copy these files to it. Reboot your computer and when it gets to A:\ type: flashrom -f -p 0* 9800xt.bin

it should flash the bios and you will have a 9800xt"

just make sure u have the right card tho first.
