Ok Sata...

I got an NF7 for Christmas but I have yet to use the SATA controller on the motherboard. So I decide to finally hook up the Maxtor DiamandMax Plus 80GB HDD I have laying around. I installed it earlier today. Its on the controller and I still have my 2 WDs on the IDE controllers.

Its plugged in and I installed the SATA drivers from the CD and enabled the SATA controller in the BIOS. Thing is I dont see any more HDDs in My Computer. The SATA controller sees it at bootup. In device manager it sees the Maxtor in 'Disk Drives' and 'SCSI and RAID Controllers.'

I have never installed a SATA Drive before so I dont really know what to do.

After I know it will work I will be installing the OS to this drive. I will have to press F6 during the initial loading of files correct to install the SATA drivers correct?

In administrative tools, go to computer management, then click "disk management" in the left pane. You can then format them, and they'll be visible.

yes, You will need to press F6.

Ahh I see. I have Partition Magic which saw it. I will just partition it when I install XP.

Should I use the drivers from the CD, floppy, or get my own? Whats best?

Yep, v1.0.0.47 from downloads should work great. Don't however download the SATA drivers off Windows Update. They will bork your system a little.

    Cheers
