Dcom?...

Hi...When I go into the event viewer I see a lot of errors under the source name of DCOM. Some of the errors are connected to the netman and winmgmt services. These DCOM errors are very annoying as they always appear in the event viewer after every boot up. I can't seem to get rid of them. Does anyone know what DCOM means and how I get rid of the error messages?

Many thanks from Colin.

    DCOM
The Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) is a protocol that enables software components to communicate directly over a network in a reliable, secure, and efficient manner. Previously called "Network OLE," DCOM is designed for use across multiple network transports, including Internet protocols such as HTTP. DCOM is based on the Open Software Foundation's DCE-RPC spec and will work with both Java applets and ActiveX® components through its use of the Component Object Model (COM).
Give us more specific info on your setup (do you have a home network?) and about the errors you are getting.

...Some of the errors are connected to the netman and winmgmt services...
Make sure those services are installed and that they are set to auto. You may not want to leave them that way permanently, but it may help with troubleshooting.

    If you have this service:

    COM+ System Application

    is it running?

Also, what OS and what type of network (if any) do you have?

Hi profdlp...Thanks for the reply...the COM+ System Application
is disabled...I am using WinXP sp1...and I am not on a network.

I think I am beginning to understand this a little clearer...I have enabled winmgmt...now it no longer "complains"(error message) about it...and the netman sevice is not installed so it continues to "complain"(error message) about it.

Set both Com+ services to manual, that way they are only started if the machines needs them for something or another program calls them.
